AOL News: Nadin Khoury, 13, says he was on his way home from school when seven older teenagers jumped him and began punching and kicking him outside an apartment complex. One of his alleged attackers filmed the assault, which went on for more than 20 minutes before a woman driving by the scene leapt out of her car and chased the bullies off. "There's nothing you can do," Khoury told Fox 29 in Philadelphia. "You can't fight back or it comes down even worse. You can't say anything except call for help." Khoury said the group of teens has targeted others as well. "They do it for no reason," he said. "Anybody that's smaller than them, just to get their kicks."  Khoury was not seriously injured in the beating, but he has been unable to go to school because of the threats he and his family have received since the Jan. 11 attack. He said the teens, who range in age from 15 to 17, had bothered him before and said his family will likely have to move to a different town. He also told Fox 29 that he believed he had been targeted because his family is from Liberia. On the video -- which the teens later posted to YouTube -- Khoury's attackers can be heard laughing at him as tries to get away. His debut and his creator, writer/artist Dan Parent, were nominated for a GLAAD Media Award last month. "When you're at different shows and conventions, and people come right up to you and talk to you about it," Parent says, "that's when it really hits you how much the character has affected people. It's all fantastic. I'm surprised how positive it's been," he adds. "We knew going into it we were doing the right thing. You're always prepared in the back of your mind for some backlash. Not to say there hasn't been some. "I'm trying to get a message across, trying to spread awareness … about what I've endured and what my friends have gone through," said Lavonne, who has been the victim of anti-gay discrimination herself, specifically through the loss of a collegiate athletic scholarship. "The 60-year-old female coach had suspicions that some of the players were playing around with each other, and she told us that she couldn't have dykes on the team, that it would not be tolerated. Mélange Lavonne (born c.1978) is an openly gay hip hop artist whose music addresses political themes including homophobia, racism, exploitation, and discrimination within hip hop culture. Lavonne's 2008 song "Gay Bash" featured on Logo TV's Click List, a showcase for LBGT short films. "Gay Bash" tells the story of Kevin, a fictional gay man murdered by gay bashers. It was directed by Little Red Pictures, with Lavonne as executive producer. As well as performing well on the Click List, the song was in January 2009 listed on AfterEllen.com's sampler of "songs from the new breed of out artists who are blazing a trail for a whole new generation, who aren’t afraid to be overtly political or sexual". Softpedia: British actor Andrew Garfield has a very tough mission ahead of him, that of taking over from Tobey Maguire in the new “Spider-Man” film. In the meantime, though, he’d like to use the opportunity to draw attention to a matter very close to his heart: bullying. In a recent interview with the Daily Mail on the set of the upcoming “Spider-Man” film, Garfield says that he’s no stranger to the experience of being bullied: regardless of what people say, school is “tough” and some of the harshest things happen on its grounds. He too was bullied and, though he’s reluctant to say it, he’s probably happy he got the chance to play the role most young actors dream of to tell the bullies in his past “see me now!” Still, he doesn’t blame those who do the bullying for their behavior, because he believes it’s a learned pattern. The bully was a victim himself once, Andrew says in the interview. “Of course, every school has their bullies, and when you’re a kid you wish you had the power to fight them and protect other people – and yourself,” the actor tells the Mail. “No, school’s hard. I think everyone has been bullied at some point. Kids can be incredibly cruel. On certain days you would come home and think, ‘today was really horrible,’ so I guess I have been bullied and I think everyone has been bullied at some point by some figure in their life. I don’t think anyone can escape it,” he adds. But he’s not blaming the bullies for it, but rather the adults who don’t intervene to break the cycle. Orlandosentinel: A "Breaking Bad" actor who has cerebral palsy says he understands the outrage a Sanford father felt in lashing out about school bullying. RJ Mitte, who plays the son of Bryan Cranston, today issued a statement saying he is familiar with such bullying. James Willie Jones of Sanford boarded a school bus to confront students he said had ridiculed his daughter, who has cerebral palsy. In his statement, Mitte said: "It's unfortunate that he didn't have better recourse than to act out as he did. Mr. Jones has come forward and taken responsibility for his actions. But what about everyone else in this situation who is culpable apologizing for their lack of action?" Mitte, who recently turned 18, is spokesman for I AM PWD (Inclusion in the Arts and Media of Performers With Disabilities). Jones, who was charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing a school function, appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" this week to speak out against bullying. Degrassination.com: Jordan will be playing a character, (Adam) who will most likely be transgender. In the promo we see her more content when in mens clothing rather than in female attire, so I just put it out there and asked if she can confirm “Adam” as being transgender and she wrote this: *Not confirming or denying that Adam is transgender*. She does add “I’m falling in love with the character, and truly enjoying portraying him.” So she will be playing a guy, we can confirm that with her last quote but has no bearing on the transgender issue.
